ABL-SF Leadership Program
Presents
"Asian Americans in Corporate America - Roadmap and Practical Solutions for Rising to the Top"
The Asian Business League of San Francisco (ABL-SF) is proud to present the 2nd Panel Discussion of its popular and well-received Asian American Leadership Discussion Series.
In our 1st Panel Discussion, we learned about the Asian American workforce demographics in the U.S. – there are approximately 5 million Asian Americans in the workforce, representing about 4.4% of the U.S. labor force, but yet less than 1% hold a senior management ranked position. We learned about some of the reasons and possible solutions to address the under-representation.
In this 2nd Panel Discussion, we want to focus on the practical solutions and clear roadmaps that will guide us to get to the top by bringing a panel of seasoned and successful Asian American senior corporate executives with an aggregate of over 100 years of practical experience.
Please join us on September 17, 2008 for our 2nd Panel Discussion to hear from an outstanding group of speakers on how they personally and successfully rose to the senior ranks in their respective organizations and careers. Learn and hear about practical and tactical approaches, and what you could do to improve the odds of rising to the senior ranks in your career or with a given organization.

How do we access that genius within us? In his 18 years of working with over 15,000 executives, Dr. Kaipa found that there are four essential questions that provoke deeper inquiry into who we are and shift what we do. The questions are:

ABL-SF Leadership Program
Asian-Americans in corporate America - how far have we come, and what's next?
Synopsis
The general term "glass ceiling" refers to the barriers that often confront ethnic Americans and women in trying to reach the upper echelons of corporate America. According to a study conducted by the Federal Glass Ceiling Commission over 10 years ago (1995), ethnic minorities made up only 3-5% of all senior managers working in Fortune 1000 companies. To put this into perspective, compare these figures with the fact that minorities and women comprised over 57% of the workforce!
It has been over a decade since that major study on workforce demographics and Asian Americans have made tremendous headway on many fronts. From Jerry Yang of Yahoo, Steve Chen of YouTube, to Yul Kwon - the winner of CBS' Survivor - Asian Americans are continuing to break down what we now call the "bamboo ceiling" in the mainstream arena. Or are we? Exactly how many or what proportion of Asian Americans occupy seats in board rooms of corporate America? Both in and outside of Silicon Valley, how often do we find the title CEO or SVP next to an Asian name? How far have we actually come?
Our upcoming ABL-SF Leadership Panel Discussion will address the above questions and more as we bring together the experience, research, real-life anecdotes, and most importantly, insights from those who have successfully climbed the corporate "Himalayas." We have asked these individuals to share their views in hopes of identifying, understanding and ultimately conquering those obstacles that confront Asian Americans on their path to becoming genuine leaders:
