Asian Business League of San Francisco (ABL-SF) presents Leadership Forum on “Layoffs, Downsizing and Unemployment: Are You Prepared?”

Background:  You must be your own leader in today's economic environment to control your own destiny.  As unemployment in California currently number in the double digits, record unemployment levels not been seen for decades have now become commonplace, so to prepare for the possibility of an unexpected unemployment situation, each of us must take action now.

In today’s difficult business environment, relevant and important issues that arise include such questions as “What can I do as a leader to protect myself from an unexpected layoff or downsizing event in my company? As one who strives to become a leader, what things can I do to help others facing job anxiety? What would a leader do in a situation where the company is facing a dire future? What leadership tools come into play when faced with the prospect of a layoff?”

1. Managing your internal environment - direct reports, employees, layoffs, voluntary turnover, and general anxiety levels of the workforce.

2. Examining and correctly interpreting your external environment - uncertainty and questions about how to best navigate through the storm, less room for mistakes, and a decreased budget.

3. Regulation/management of self - as a leader, what are some personal issues that you may potentially be concerned about - layoff, stress, pressure from above, lack of resources, and what are some things can you do to keep a “level head,” control your emotions and keep from making rash or irrational decisions?
